AAC is proud of our strong and creative volunteer community! Our Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator, Ryan Parks, is the leader of this hardworking group, which includes children, adults, families, and friends of all ages. Let Ryan know if you’re interested in the programs listed below.
We like to take our dogs for walks – it’s good for them, and learning how to walk nicely makes them more adoptable. Our biggest need is on the weekends, from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Let us know if you’d like to help out as a walker!
The Events Team is comprised of volunteers and staff members who schedule, organize, and attend onsite and offsite adoption and community events. AAC volunteers attend offsite adoption events at a variety of venues throughout the year, spreading awareness of AAC and promoting animals in our care.
The primary reason for foster care is to provide temporary homes for dogs and cats due to overcrowding, or for animals whose conditions aren’t manageable in a shelter setting. Foster care is needed for healthy, sick, and injured dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds, and for litters of puppies and kittens too young for adoption.
Pet Pal Program
The Pet Pal Program aims to improve the quality of life for long-term resident animals, and prioritize their adoption. Volunteers pair with a dog or cat to focus on marketing, socialization, and post-adoption support. Participation includes at least two 45-minute visits each week, meeting behavior plan benchmarks, marketing for adoption, providing post-adoption support, and one off-site promotional activity/month.
Humane Education Program
Volunteers travel to local schools and make a presentation about animals, animal welfare, animal shelters, and what students can do to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs and cats. One of our shelter residents usually tags along and steals the show!
The Night Shift
Two nights a month we open the shelter from 8:00 – 10:00PM for a limited number of volunteers to socialize our cats and dogs. Keep your eyes open for special Night Shift events!
We often need to transport animals for various reasons, either individually or in groups, and the A-Team is the group of volunteers who get the job done. If you can help transport, let us know!
The Maintenance Crew
This group of volunteers is always ready with the tools, experience, and hard work we need to keep the shelter running smoothly and looking good, inside and out.
